The Chinese New Year represents the Lunar New Year and it takes place annually between January and February. Also known as the Spring Festival, the celebration is tied to agricultural practices in ancient China, when farmers would look to the moon to guide when they sow and harvest their crops. The celebrations begin on the second new moon after the winter solstice, and the celebrations last for 15 days. Each year is linked to a different animal, and 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit! Fun Fact about the Year of the Rabbit; this year is considered yin and emphasizes the importance of rest. The rabbit is a symbol of intellect and cautiousness. Rabbits can be silly, timid, shy, curious, and high spirited, so let's bring in the Year of Rabbit with the vibrant energy of the community of Maui. All are welcome to celebrate!
